A conference organized by IDIVAL will address the opportunities offered by Horizon Europe to boost research and innovation in health

27 de May de 2026

Experts from the scientific, healthcare and management fields will analyze European funding, the role of population cohorts, and the transformation of the healthcare system through research.
On June 2, a conference dedicated to the Horizon Europe programme will be held, aimed primarily at healthcare professionals and research managers, though also open to researchers, technical staff and other profiles interested in health research and innovation.

The morning session will provide a practical overview of European funding opportunities in health, promoting knowledge of research support instruments and encouraging participation in international projects with an impact on the healthcare system.

The event will begin with an institutional welcome, followed by the lecture “European Research Programmes in Horizon Europe,” delivered by Marta Marín, NCP Cluster 1–Health and EIC Horizon Europe at the Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology (FECYT), an expert in European programmes related to the health sector.

Next, Javier Crespo, Scientific Director of Cohorte Cantabria, will present the talk “Population Cohorts and Health Research Ecosystems,” focusing on the strategic value of population data, the exposome, and collaborative ecosystems as tools to transform biomedical research and advance toward more preventive, personalized and evidence-based healthcare systems.

Sustainability and modernization of health systems

One of the central moments of the conference will be the roundtable titled “The Role of Research in the Transformation of the European Healthcare System,” moderated by María Luisa Sámano, Health Research Manager at IDIVAL. Participants will include Olga de Cos, member of IDIVAL’s Health Economics Research Group and Associate Professor at the University of Cantabria; Luis Alberto Vázquez, Specialist in Endocrinology and Nutrition at Marqués de Valdecilla University Hospital (HUMV); Andrés Ramos, Project Manager of IDIVAL’s Medical Oncology Research Group; and once again Marta Marín. Together, they will discuss the challenges and opportunities of research for the sustainability and modernization of health systems in Europe.

This initiative aims to create a meeting space for professionals, researchers and managers to strengthen cooperation, generate synergies and foster greater participation in European health research projects. It also seeks to bring Horizon Europe opportunities closer to the healthcare and scientific ecosystem, facilitating access to international funding and the development of innovative projects capable of addressing today’s major health challenges.
