IDIVAL encourages participation in “La Caja”, a solidarity project in support of childhood cancer research

The Health Research Institute of Cantabria (IDIVAL) joins the solidarity initiative “La Caja”, taking place at Santander’s City Hall Square from September 27 to October 5, led by Cantabrian illusionists Mago Xuso and Asier Moon.

For nine days, the artists will remain enclosed in a semi-transparent room installed in the city center, in a symbolic gesture that mirrors the hospital isolation experienced by many children with cancer. The main objective is to raise awareness in society about this reality and to collect funds that will be entirely allocated to childhood cancer research at IDIVAL.

“La Caja” will feature a broad program of more than 50 cultural, sports, and family activities, all with a symbolic cost between 1 and 5 euros. Planned initiatives include blood donation days, solidarity hairdressing for the making of oncological wigs, food collection, inclusive activities, magic shows, sports competitions, and a large family treasure hunt. In addition, raffles will be held with major prizes such as a trip to Disneyland Paris, an iPhone, or an electric motorbike.

The experience can be followed both in person at City Hall Square and through 24-hour live streaming on YouTube and Twitch, where interviews, podcasts, shows, and diverse content for all audiences will be broadcast.

Through this project, the aim is not only to support biomedical research, but also to give visibility to other solidarity causes, such as the inclusion of people with disabilities, pet adoption, or the fight against bullying.

“At IDIVAL, we would like to thank the organizers, collaborators, and citizens for their involvement in this pioneering initiative, which will allow us to continue advancing new lines of research against childhood cancer, with the firm commitment to improving the health and quality of life of our youngest patients.”
