The Marqués de Valdecilla Research Institute (IDIVAL) welcomed participants of the European HOPE Programme (European Hospital and Healthcare Federation Exchange Programme), a professional exchange initiative focused in this edition on patient safety and patient experience. The visit formed part of the programme organised in Cantabria to share best practices and explore innovative experiences across different areas of the healthcare system.
Throughout the day, participants learned about the research and innovation activity driven by IDIVAL and were introduced to the collaborative ecosystem that connects research, clinical practice and applied innovation to improve healthcare delivery. The session highlighted the strategic role of the institute as a space for generating knowledge and transferring solutions aimed at safer, more efficient and person‑centred care.
Turning ideas into solutions
One of the central themes of the visit was the work carried out by IDIVAL’s Innovation Area, which promotes an approach centred on the real needs of patients and healthcare professionals. Through initiatives related to human factors engineering, prototyping and the development of European projects, IDIVAL works to transform ideas into practical solutions that help improve care processes, strengthen clinical safety and enhance the patient experience.
The visit also included presentations of several of the institute’s capabilities and services, including the Prototyping Unit, the LINNUX laboratory and the European Projects Area, all of which reinforce IDIVAL’s position as a benchmark in healthcare innovation and international cooperation. Participation in the HOPE programme further strengthens Cantabria’s commitment to knowledge exchange and the adoption of best practices that support the advancement of more innovative, safer and more human‑centred healthcare systems.
