IDIVAL publishes the Preview of its 2025 Activity Report with outstanding results in health research and innovation

The Marqués de Valdecilla Research Institute (IDIVAL) has published the Preview of its 2025 Activity Report, a document that highlights the main achievements in biomedical research, innovation, and knowledge transfer carried out over the past year.

The IDIVAL, accredited as a Health Research Institute since 2015 and reaccredited in 2025, continues to consolidate its position as a national reference center in health research, driving the scientific activity of the Marqués de Valdecilla University Hospital with the support of the Government of Cantabria.

Throughout 2025, the institute has maintained its commitment to scientific excellence, national and international collaboration, and translational research, structuring its activity around key areas such as cancer, neurosciences, systems pathology, diagnostic and therapeutic medicine, as well as cross‑cutting fields such as public health and bioethics.

In figures, the IDIVAL has exceeded 16.5 million euros in revenue and has a solid research structure made up of dozens of groups and hundreds of researchers. In addition, it has generated a remarkable scientific output, with thousands of publications and a strong international impact.

Boosting research talent

Strengthening research talent has been another key focus of the year, with more than 1.5 million euros allocated to research support programs, including projects for early‑career researchers, innovation initiatives, and specific programs for healthcare professionals and primary care.

Clinical trial activity also continues to grow, with more than one hundred studies signed in 2025, consolidating IDIVAL as a relevant actor in clinical research.

Among its strategic infrastructures, Cohorte Cantabria stands out as the largest prospective population cohort in Spain, which has already reached more than 51,000 participants and will enable the study of health determinants for at least 20 years.

The document highlights the essential role of collaborators and organizations that support IDIVAL’s research activity. Through the Colabora Valdecilla philanthropy program, non‑profit associations and individuals have contributed to advancing research and innovation projects, with more than 550,000 euros donated over the past five years. This collaboration is key to continuing progress in scientific development and improving the health of patients and society.

As reflected in the Preview, the year has also been marked by significant scientific and technological advances, such as the development of artificial intelligence systems applied to health, European projects, innovations in surgery, and new therapeutic approaches for complex diseases.
