IDIVAL takes part in a European meeting in Mérida to promote the transfer of JACARDI results into healthcare systems

The Nursing Research Group contributes to shaping the sustainability strategy for the European pilot projects on self-management of cardiovascular diseases and diabetes.

The Marqués de Valdecilla Health Research Institute (IDIVAL), through its Nursing Research Group, co-leader of Work Package 10 (WP10) of the European JACARDI project, participated in the third Learning Session held in Mérida and organised by the Foundation for the Training and Research of Health Professionals of Extremadura (FundeSalud), a key project partner and leader of WP10. The meeting brought together the teams responsible for the European pilot projects to advance the final phase of the initiative, which focuses on ensuring that the interventions developed can be sustained over time and effectively integrated into public healthcare systems.

Representing the group were Project Manager Lorena Madrigal and PhD candidate José Antonio Pascual, who took part in the different working sessions alongside healthcare professionals and researchers from several European countries.

Throughout the meeting, participants discussed the methodology that will guide the project’s next steps, with particular emphasis on the transfer of project outcomes, the sustainability of the interventions, and the development of roadmaps to facilitate their implementation across different healthcare settings. They also worked on identifying the main achievements of the pilot projects and defining strategies aimed at policymakers, healthcare professionals, patients and patient organisations to support the integration of these initiatives into routine clinical practice.

Within this framework, IDIVAL’s Nursing Research Group presented the experience developed in Cantabria through the self-management pilot for people living with cardiovascular diseases and diabetes. The initiative is based on community peer-learning workshops, supported by the knowledge and expertise of healthcare professionals across the region, with the aim of providing patients with the skills and tools needed to take a more active role in managing their health and chronic conditions.

In addition to leading the pilot in Cantabria, IDIVAL’s Nursing Research Group plays a coordinating role within JACARDI as co-leader of WP10, promoting the exchange of experiences and best practices among the different European pilot projects and contributing to the joint development of strategies that facilitate the transfer of project outcomes into healthcare systems.

The Learning Session also included collaborative workshops and networking activities among project partners, providing an opportunity to exchange experiences, discuss shared challenges and explore possible solutions. These meetings help strengthen the international collaboration network established through JACARDI and lay the groundwork for future joint initiatives in health research and innovation.

The meeting in Mérida marks another important milestone in the final stage of the European project, whose objective is to ensure that the solutions developed throughout these years of collaboration move beyond the research environment and are sustainably integrated into healthcare services, ultimately improving the prevention and management of cardiovascular diseases and diabetes.
