The event, scheduled for 25 and 26 June, will explore the interdependence between human, animal and environmental health from a scientific and multidisciplinary perspective
Alberto Gandarillas, researcher at the Marqués de Valdecilla Research Institute (IDIVAL) and INSERM scientist, will direct the summer course “One Health: One Planet” on 25 and 26 June in Suances. This initiative of the University of Cantabria (UC) will analyse today’s major health and environmental challenges through an integrated vision of health.
Gandarillas, principal investigator at IDIVAL and INSERM researcher, will lead this training programme together with Santiago García de Enterría, coordinator of the LIFE Coop Cortaderia Project and SAEMA Empleo.
The course is part of the UC Summer Courses 2026 programme and aims to introduce citizens and professionals to the One Health approach, an international strategy that recognises the close relationship between the health of people, animals and ecosystems.
Over two days, experts and specialists will examine how phenomena such as climate change, biodiversity loss, environmental degradation and the spread of invasive species have a direct impact on public health and population well‑being. The programme will also explore the opportunities offered by collaboration across scientific disciplines to design more effective responses to these global challenges.
The course is supported by the Regional Ministry of Public Works, Housing, Land Planning and Environment of the Government of Cantabria, and benefits from the collaboration of Cortaderia Life and SAEMA, organisations committed to environmental protection and sustainable development.

At the end of the course, participants who meet the attendance requirements will receive an official certificate. In addition, the UC Summer Courses programme offers ECTS credit recognition for undergraduate students.
