The Ministry of Health has officially opened the 2025–2026 Call for the National Health System (NHS) Good Practices Day, a well-established forum to recognize and share experiences of quality, innovation, and positive impact in healthcare. Through this initiative, teams from the various NHS Areas and Strategies are invited to submit projects that contribute to improving efficiency, equity, and health outcomes.
In this edition, proposals may be submitted within the following Areas and Strategies:
1. Strategic Framework for Primary Care
◦ Models for calculating human resource needs.
◦ HR management focused on accessibility, continuity, stability, talent attraction, and reducing temporary contracts.
◦ Comprehensive management of healthcare demand.
◦ Implementation of remote care in the autonomous communities.
2. Area for Addressing HIV-Related Stigma and Discrimination
Plans and actions linked to:
◦ Strategic Plan for the Prevention and Control of HIV and STIs 2021–2030.
◦ Social Pact for Non-Discrimination and Equal Treatment Associated with HIV.
◦ Global Partnership to Eliminate HIV-Related Stigma and Discrimination (UNAIDS).
3. Health Promotion and Prevention Strategy in the NHS
◦ Promotion of breastfeeding.
◦ Encouragement of physical activity and active mobility.
◦ Prevention of alcohol consumption.
◦ Prevention of tobacco use.
4. Cancer Strategy
◦ Comprehensive care for long-term cancer survivors.
◦ Optimization of oncological diagnosis from the initial clinical suspicion.
5. Cardiovascular Health Strategy
◦ Diagnosis and treatment.
◦ Follow-up, rehabilitation, and continuity of care.
◦ Innovation and research.
◦ Equity and gender.
6. Chronic Care Strategy
◦ Continuity of care.
◦ Home-based care.
◦ Integrated social and healthcare services.
◦ Adaptation of clinical practice in chronic conditions.
7. Patient Safety Strategy
◦ Support for “second victims.”
◦ Early detection of clinical deterioration and referral within and between hospitals.
◦ Improvement of safety in hospital emergency services and Primary Care.
Submission Procedure and Deadlines
Teams responsible for practices or interventions must submit their applications, including Annexes I and II (technical report), through the representative of the Institutional Committee for Health Strategies in each autonomous community. Each community will select a maximum of four good practices per Strategy, based on the evaluation criteria established in Annex III.
Key dates for the call are:
• Proposal submission: until December 15, 2025.
• Regional pre-selection: until January 31, 2026.
• National evaluation: February 27 – April 20, 2026.
• Final Day and Award Ceremony: May 27, 2026.
Selected initiatives may receive Gold, Silver, or Bronze distinctions, as well as the NHS Good Practice Seal, endorsed by the Interterritorial Council.
