Santander will host the 5th Northern Headache Meeting (CEFANORTE 2026), a leading scientific event dedicated to updating knowledge and promoting a multidisciplinary approach to headaches and migraine. The congress is organized by neurologists Julio Pascual and Vicente González‑Quintanilla from the Marqués de Valdecilla University Hospital and the Marqués de Valdecilla Research Institute (IDIVAL) on June 5 and 6, 2026, at the Santemar Hotel.
CEFANORTE will bring together specialists from various hospitals and national reference centers to analyze the main diagnostic and therapeutic advances in headaches, with special focus on migraine, new targeted therapies, and current clinical challenges.
The opening ceremony will take place on Friday, June 5 at 4:45 p.m., led by Vicente González‑Quintanilla and Julio Pascual. This will be followed by the session “Current Debates,” moderated by Jorge Madera, which will address topics such as the role of neuroimaging in headaches, the glymphatic system, and key current issues in a dynamic debate format.
One of the highlights of the day will be the clinical case discussion‑competition for residents, a space designed to promote practical training and the exchange of experiences between young specialists and established experts.
The second day, Saturday, June 6, will focus on therapeutic updates in migraine in 2026. National experts will review the new symptomatic and preventive treatment guidelines, as well as the use of anti‑CGRP therapies and their management in patients with comorbidities.
In addition, the program will include a session dedicated to other headaches and neuralgias, under the title “It’s Not All Migraine,” where clinical and therapeutic aspects of trigeminal neuralgia, exertional headaches, and other topics will be reviewed.
The meeting will conclude with an open discussion between attendees and speakers, the award ceremony for the best clinical case in headaches, and the final conclusions from the organizers.
CEFANORTE thus consolidates itself as a leading scientific forum in northern Spain for sharing knowledge, promoting research, and improving care for patients with headaches, one of the most prevalent and disabling neurological disorders.
