The Magdalena Peninsula will host, on July 6 and 7, a conference organized by the Government of Cantabria in collaboration with IDIVAL, addressing the challenges of the digital transformation of the healthcare system
The Magdalena Peninsula will be the venue on July 6 and 7 for the conference “Value‑Based Digital Health: Data and Precision Management with Clinical Impact”, an event that will bring together in Santander some of the leading national and international experts in digital health, artificial intelligence, genomics, healthcare innovation, and clinical management to discuss the challenges and opportunities of transforming the healthcare system.
Organized by the Directorate‑General for Planning, Regulation, Knowledge Management and Digital Health of the Ministry of Health of the Government of Cantabria, in collaboration with the Marqués de Valdecilla Research Institute (IDIVAL), the conference is part of Cantabria’s commitment to promoting a more predictive, preventive, personalized, and people‑centered care model, supported by the intelligent use of data and new technologies.
The event will be led by Óscar Fernández, Director‑General for Planning, Regulation, Knowledge Management and Digital Health, and María Rocío Montalbán, Deputy Director‑General for Digital Health. It will bring together institutional representatives, healthcare professionals, researchers, patient organizations, and innovation specialists from national and international reference centers.
A value‑based and future‑oriented healthcare system
Digital transformation is one of the major challenges facing healthcare systems in a context marked by population aging, the rise of chronic diseases, and increasing demand for care. In this scenario, digitalization becomes a strategic tool to advance toward more efficient, integrated, and personalized care.
Over the two days, participants will analyze key initiatives promoted within the framework of the National Health System’s Digital Health Strategy, as well as the impact of the future European Health Data Space, which will enhance interoperability of health information and enable progress in research, personalized medicine, and the development of artificial intelligence‑based solutions.
The conference will also address successful experiences in areas such as diabetes, patient safety, precision healthcare management, human‑factors engineering, genomic information systems, and the application of emerging technologies to improve health outcomes.
A program featuring leading experts
The opening session will include the participation of the Minister of Health of the Government of Cantabria, César Pascual, while the inaugural lecture on the National Health System’s Digital Health Strategy will be delivered by Juan Fernando Muñoz, Secretary‑General for Digital Health, Information and Innovation of the Ministry of Health.
The program will bring together internationally renowned specialists such as José Carlos Flórez, Head of the Unified Department of Medicine at Massachusetts General Hospital and Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Harvard Medical School; Raj Ratwani, Vice President for Scientific Affairs at MedStar Health (Washington DC); Manuel Corpas, Professor of Genomics at the University of Westminster and CEO of Cambridge Precision Medicine; and Joaquín Dopazo, Director of the BioAIData platform.
They will be joined by representatives of the National Health System, hospital executives, researchers from CSIC, the Polytechnic University of Madrid, IDIVAL, the Aragon Health Sciences Institute, members of the Spanish Patients’ Forum, and professionals from various regional health services, as well as experts from the technology and pharmaceutical sectors.
Debates on artificial intelligence, genomics, and personalized care
Among the main topics of the program are roundtable discussions on the role of artificial intelligence in healthcare, patient safety, trust in digital health, personalized diabetes care, genetic research, and genomic information systems.
The sessions will focus on how to transform health data into useful knowledge for clinical decision‑making, optimize care processes, and accelerate the adoption of innovation with real impact on patients’ quality of life.
