Specialists in hematology meet in Santander to advance the management of immunotherapy in acute lymphoblastic leukemia

5 de May de 2026

The Valdecilla Virtual Hospital, in collaboration with the Hematology Department of the Marqués de Valdecilla University Hospital, is organizing the course “Management of Immunotherapy in Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL)” on May 13 and 14. This advanced training program is aimed at pediatric onco‑hematologists and hematologists interested in this disease.

The activity has the institutional support of the Government of Cantabria, IDIVAL, and the clinical environment of the Marqués de Valdecilla University Hospital, and is sponsored by the biopharmaceutical company Amgen.

Over two days, participants will take part in an intensive program that combines theoretical training, technical discussion of clinical cases, and high‑fidelity simulations. This approach will allow for an in‑depth exploration of the use of immunotherapy—particularly bispecific antibodies—in different clinical scenarios of ALL.

The main objective of the course is to update and strengthen clinical competencies related to the indication, application, and management of complications associated with immunotherapy, through a practical and multidisciplinary teaching model. Key topics include: • Indications for immunotherapy in first‑line treatment and in relapsed or refractory disease, in both pediatric and adult populations.

• Early management of adverse effects such as cytokine release syndrome, neurotoxicity, and infections.
• Identification of late complications and therapeutic strategies.
• Development of clinical skills through simulation and teamwork.

The Valdecilla Virtual Hospital, the organizing center, is a benchmark in healthcare innovation and training, accredited as an optimal‑level teaching center by the Continuing Education Commission and by the American College of Surgeons.

The management team is made up of Dr. Mª Aránzazu Bermúdez Rodríguez and Dr. Mónica López Duarte, hematology specialists at the Marqués de Valdecilla University Hospital, together with a multidisciplinary teaching team with extensive clinical experience.

The first day will take place at the Marqués de Valdecilla University Hospital, while the second will be held at the Valdecilla Virtual Hospital, where the clinical simulation workshops will be conducted.

The course offers 12 places, with the aim of ensuring personalized and highly participatory training.
