Valdecilla hosts an open day on neurorehabilitation to mark World Stroke Day

27 de October de 2025

Coinciding with Spain’s National Day of Acquired Brain Injury (October 26) and World Stroke Day (October 29), the Marqués de Valdecilla University Hospital is organizing an Open Day in its Neurorehabilitation Unit, aimed at patients, families, caregivers, associations, and interested professionals.

The event, to be held on Wednesday, October 29, aims to bring the unit’s work closer to the public, showcase its rehabilitation program, and provide a practical look at how specialized care contributes to recovery and quality of life for people affected by acquired brain injury and their families.

During the day, attendees will have the opportunity to visit the facilities and speak directly with professionals from the service — physiotherapists, occupational therapists, neuropsychologists, speech therapists, and physicians — to ask questions and gain a better understanding of their roles within the rehabilitation process.

The program will open with a welcome session led by members of the hospital’s management team, followed by a talk on the comprehensive approach to brain injury and the testimony of a patient who has taken part in the program. Afterwards, visitors will be divided into groups to tour the different sections of the unit and observe its day-to-day activity.

“We want to show transparently how we work and what each professional contributes, because there are still many misconceptions about neurorehabilitation and its scope,” explain the heads of the unit.

The Open Day is free and open to the public, with no prior registration required, and will take place in the Adult Neurorehabilitation Unit. During the intermission, attendees will be offered coffee in the exhibition hall adjacent to the main auditorium, thanks to the collaboration of Ipsen, the event’s sponsor.
